Clerkenwell Design Week

Clerkenwell in London, is full of listed buildings, historic bars and Michelin-starred restaurants. Also home to many international creative firms as well as popular office furniture companies showrooms, it is considered one of the UK’s most ultra-fashionable boroughs in terms of lifestyle.

This all means it is the ideal place to host the UK’s leading design showcase every year in May. OfficeMaster travelled to CDW2022 this week for our first time since 2019 to see what was on offer. It was great to finally be able to reconnect with industry colleagues face to face for the first time since the pandemic. In some cases, we were meeting people in-person for the first time having previously only spoke via telephone or email! We visited many fabulous showrooms across the few days we were there, which provided inspiration, not only for furniture, but flooring, lighting, staging and interior design too.

Many people wonder what office environments will look like post-Covid, and Clerkenwell was certainly the place to be for those seeking solutions. Across the few days, presentations, workshops and talks were held on a variety of subjects, including the future of workplaces. We have been predicting for a while that more and more mobile elements will be introduced and that was certainly the case with a lot of the furniture on display. Having wheels on chairs is common, but having wheels on desks, tables, whiteboards and display walls allows for greater configuration and adaptability at work. Pods were also a common theme at CDW. Whether fully enclosed or opened on one side, pods give the user greater visual and acoustic privacy within an open-plan office.

An interesting development we noted among several manufacturers, is the ability to add a desk extension to existing desks and paired with a stool or two, allows for ‘hot desking’ or ad-hoc get-togethers. These are benefits to working in the same space again, as opposed to working remotely. Finally, some of the trends we saw are ones that have continued since before Covid struck. Height-adjustable desks allow for greater movement and hold a host of health benefits to the user. Biophilic design is introducing elements from outside to indoors and can reduce stress, improve cognitive function, and enhance mood and creativity.

Some of the showrooms we visited include Quadrifoglio Group, The Senator Group, Allermuir and Brunner GmBH. Dave McCarthy from our Cork office was the designated photographer for the trip, see the images above. For further information on any of the products featured here, please feel free to get in touch.

Case Study: Irish Cattle Breeding Federation

We were delighted to collaborate with the Irish Cattle Breeding Federation (ICBF) recently to create a new-look workspace at their Head Office in Ballincollig, Cork. ICBF help their members to make better breeding and management decisions through their many services. Here's a little look at the finished result featuring desking, seating, storage, meeting rooms, collaboration spaces, breakout areas and more. All loose furniture fitted by our skilled and experienced installation team.

Waterford Business Expo 2022

On May 12 Waterford businesses came together in Tom Murphy Car Sales, Cork Road for the annual Waterford Chamber Business Expo. An afternoon packed with great business stories, networking and refreshments supplied by some of the city and county’s best traders.

OfficeMaster were delighted to be in attendance, showcasing some of our favourite pieces from our showroom such as the Haven sofa and Host laptop tables from Allermuir, as well as giving away an electric sit/stand desk! Congratulations to Michael Meagher from Swift Print, winner of the desk after his business card had been drawn from the bowl by Jim ‘Flash’ Gordon of Boxworks.

Speaking at the event, Waterford Chamber President John McSweeney said:

“I’m confident that if we continue to work together like we are here today, that can only be good for business. There is so much potential for Waterford right now, it’s hard not to be positive. It is heartening to see so many people reconnect after such a long absence, it brings an extra special atmosphere to today’s events. It has been wonderful going around to all the exhibitors and the innovation on display is simply astounding.”

It was great to meet so many local businesses operated by passionate people with inspiring stories. Thanks also to the Waterford companies who continue to support OfficeMaster as we approach 50 years in business next year.

New Product Launch: Bastille from Allermuir

Introducing Bastille...

Bastille is a seating family made up of a dining, lounge and bar stool with a minimalist, yet luxurious aesthetic. The collection was designed specifically with hospitality environments in mind although with the increased merging of interior styles in corporate and hospitality markets the collection could easily transition across both. Designed by Patrick Norguet, an icon of French Design Bastille is an exciting new piece that we are sure will be popular with the architectural community and interior designers we work with.
