Why Do I Need an Air Purifier?

Why Do I Need an Air Purifier?

Indoor air is between two and five times dirtier than outdoor air. That’s according to the Environmental Protection Agency, which is why we have sought solutions for our customers in relation to localised air purification. Despite annual vaccinations and hand sanitisation, Colds and Flu affect tens of millions of people a year across the UK & Ireland. It is estimated that up to 40% of Europeans suffer from allergic rhinitis. Asthma impacts 1 out of every 10 children. Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) can be found in Paints, cleaning supplies, office equipment and more. Not to mention how the presence of odours can reflect negatively on businesses. Odours from bathrooms, eating areas, stale air and more are primary complaint drivers for the facilities managers we deal with.

We recommend our clients consider a Aeramax Pro Air Purifier from Fellowes. They have been a trusted provider in the Air Purification category since 2011, offering both personal and commercial grade machines and filters to a wide range of industries. Since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, they have sold almost 200,000 air purifiers globally. The difference between Aeramax Pro and many other commercial air purifiers is the true HEPA filter technology complemented by a pre-filter to remove large particles such as dust and a carbon filter to remove odours and VOCs. True HEPA filters must meet rigorous standards set out by the U.S. Department of Energy, such as removing 99.97 percent of particles that are 0.3 microns. If you see descriptions such as “HEPA-like” or “Euro HEPA,” you can know that it is misleading language for purifiers that don’t meet the standard.

Some buildings and systems cannot easily bring in outside air. AeraMax Pro works by drawing polluted air in and filtering out more than 99 percent of contaminants, including dust, mold spores, germs, VOCs, odours and allergens. After the air is filtered, it is ionised and recirculated back into a room. When complemented with good ventilation and minimise contamination from harmful sources by removing hazardous building materials  such as cleaning products, air purifiers help ensure clean and healthy environments for building occupants.

With the advent of AeraMax Professional’s new PureView™ technology, facility personnel, office managers and others in fields ranging from dental labs and manufacturing to health care institutions, schools, colleges and creches can actually see these commercial-grade air purifiers working. That’s because they make the invisible - germs, bacteria, volatile organic compounds, odours, viruses and the like - visible. PureView uses an innovative EnviroSmart 2.0 technology, which employs laser PM2.5 sensors to scan and analyse a room, activating the air purification system when contaminants are present. Because each unit has a large digital display, occupants can actually see the cleaning progress.

The display showcases when heavy pollutants are in the air with a red alert graphic. When a higher fan speed is needed, the display will indicate ‘cleaning’ and cycles through a purification process. The on-screen air quality grade (clean, fair and poor) is closely tied to US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and World Health Organization (WHO) recommended air quality levels. As the PureView technology continues removing particulates from the air, the display will show a readout of the percentage of particles captured, changing to a yellow graphic. When the graphic turns green, the air is clean. Also, the display offers a visual readout of VOCs and odours in the air to let occupants know the contaminants are being removed.

Other than an occasional filter change, this makes commercial grade air purifiers from Fellowes a targeted solution to providing cleaner facilities by improving indoor air where it’s needed most, such as offices, schools and residential facilities. Over 18 months into the pandemic, Fellowes have now performed enough research to be able to say that their Four-Stage True HEPA Filtration System removes 99.99% of coronavirus*. AeraMax Pro was also  designed to seamlessly integrate anywhere into your space. The stand option offers true flexibility where you need it most; simply plug it in and go. There are also wall mounted options as well as the ability to recess the unit into a wall.

The broader benefits of having a quality air purification solution include:

  • Improves Productivity
  • Reduces Absenteeism and Presenteeism
  • Improves Facility Perceptions
  • Reduces Common Complains Such as Odours
  • Creates a More Positive, Health-Focused Environment

*Fellowes AeraMax Pro air purifiers were demonstrated through independent laboratory testing to be effective in reducing aerosolised airborne concentration of Human Coronavirus 229E in a test chamber, reaching 99.99% airborne reduction within 1 hour of operation.
